What it does

Cursor announced on 19 December 2025 that Graphite had entered a definitive agreement to be acquired. The reasoning in the announcement was that writing code got fast enough for the bottleneck to move downstream, to reviewing changes, merging them safely, and collaborating, and that the boundary between where you write code and where you review it had started to look arbitrary.

The immediate practical answer for existing Graphite users was continuity: Graphite continues to operate independently, with the same team and the same product. What Cursor signalled for later was tighter integration between local development and pull requests, and code review that learns from both systems.

It helps to keep three things separate. Graphite is the external review platform. Bugbot is Cursor's own agentic reviewer that comments on pull requests. Origin is Cursor's git forge. They overlap in ambition but are distinct products you adopt separately.

Frequently asked questions

Did Cursor buy Graphite?
Yes. On 19 December 2025 Cursor announced that Graphite had entered a definitive agreement to be acquired. Graphite continues to operate independently with the same team and product.
Is Graphite included in my Cursor subscription?
No. Graphite remains a separate product with its own pricing. The acquisition announcement described future integration rather than bundling.
Should I use Graphite or Bugbot?
They answer different questions. Graphite is a review and stacked pull request platform for humans. Bugbot is an agent that reviews a pull request and leaves comments. Teams commonly run a reviewer agent inside whichever review platform they already use.
